Bunched up chess pieces

Hey, guys.  Does it give your opponent an advantage if your side of the board is bunched together?

Yes.  Anything that restricts the movement of your pieces can be potentially catastrophic.  If it happens to you, try to make even trades in material to open up the board.  If you notice your opponents position is cramped, look for hanging pieces or ways to attack the king.

One of the most satisfying wins in chess is the smothered mate, where a lone knight delivers checkmate to a king totally blocked by his own pieces.

I have done that only once, and it was when my brother was totally inexperienced!
