I only play bots or my coach because every real person takes 15 hours to take their turn!

if you think people take too long, maybe switch to a different time length, like blitz or bullet. also, i get it. but sometimes people just need to think and really there is nothing wrong with that. give them grace and be patient. use the extra time to calculate their best move, and how you will counter it on your next turn.

I find that complaining about someone using their time in a timed game is ludicrous.

Welcome to chess.com! I like cats too. There's a grand opening beginners tournament tomorrow with members in your elo involved. Go check out the members list and how many members in that community signed up for it. Just check my bio.

You do realize until around the 50s one of the most popular kinds of tournaments was UNTIMED. People would spend like 2 hours on a move. Play Bullet or Biltz if you don't like people thinking for a bit-literally what Chess is about.

One time i was playing timed chess with TXIRD0 and one of the moves was like 3 minutes . . . i cant remember.

That's why you play 50 games at the same time.

15 hours? Then you're talking about Daily, right? People play each other from around the world. Most times, the OP is asleep when I'm moving. Playing at same time doesn't work out.

People also have work and family and shopping and things to do. Playing Daily allows them the freedom to live their lives and do what needs to be done and STILL play chess. If someone takes 15 hours to move, that is their RIGHT.

Yep, looks like you should play time-controlled games instead. ALL game methods are great and they fit all types of people; just find what's best for you. wink

people might be sleeping, cant blame that right

Maybe because I have a life and have school?

Everyone has the same clock. That time is there to be used, not rushed through. If someone wants to think for a long time, that’s their right. They’re simply using the time they were given. In fact, if your opponent thinks too long, you gain a time advantage, which actually puts you in a better position. If you prefer faster decisions, the solution is simple. Play shorter time controls instead of classical or rapid. Different players enjoy chess in different ways. The clock already solves this fairly for everyone.

Bots wont teach you good chess though.

Amazing since the longest format of the 11 games you played here so far is 10 minutes. So, boohoo.

It's *funny what one finds out when they check up on people's 'stories,' isn't it?

*not really so funny though since it wastes all our time when we could be learning or playing chess! Thank you again, as usual, sawdof!!

People have their time, it's true, but in 10min games it's a little disrespectful to take half of your time to play your second move. I faced this sometimes and asked myself if they simply wanted to win by aborting the game. For me, the biggest part of the time has to be used during middle game and end game, not opening.

However, in daily games, you have to accept someone take 15h to play, as it's a long-time game and they have other things to do (like going to work) than playing chess.

Where did you find that? I found it once but I lost it again because I forgot how to spell luddycruss.

For the information of the o.p. though, timed games are chosen where both sides wish to spend some time on their moves. In particular, where someone is playing a lot of games, maybe 40 to 60, they will normally take near their three day limit for each move even if it's forced. That gives them more thinking time for the NEXT move.
