Hi everyone. This is sachin. It's been 5 years almost since I joined chess.com. I joined chess.com to become a better player. I was 13 5 years ago now I am 17 (almost 18). Time flies. And I am very sad regarding one topic. You see from 26th to 30th june I attended a Fide rated tournament. And I got 1500 fide rating (soon it will be updated) but I feel sad about one thing. Out of 9 matches I won 5. Which is pretty average. I got 200 rank out of 556. Which is also average. Thing is the 5 matches I won. Opponent just played blunder and I took material. But when position seems even (like a draw) I do blunder. I just cant do deep positions I dont know why. Also there was enough time (90 min +30 seconds increment for each person) i dont understand. And there are people who are IM in 15 years. ACM in 13 years. ACM in 9 years. Looking at these people. I feel like 18 is a bit too late to become chess master. I regret that I cannot become chess master. If there is still chance. Can anyone say how. My parents also dont support me as it's too late according to them. They say I am a good player but not that great to become master. Pls resolve all these doubts of mine. Also I have rating of 1900. In blitz and rapid. But when I reach 1950 I do tilt again it comes back to 1900.

Thank you

Regards,

Sachin.

Hi Sachin,

You can become a grandmaster, but you are probably too old to become a world champ given your current rating. The best example of someone becoming a grandmaster later in life is Ben Feingold.

Hi chris. Actually for me it's not only about being grand master. But just trying to become titled player like CM NM IM etc. Then eventually I could become that. But yes you are right I am too old to become world champ.
