can my depression be cured from playing chess?

Yes, chess can take your mind off whatever is bothering you. But maybe not through playing. Just spend your time on tough chess puzzles and you will be instantly drawn into it and forget everything else.
Chess is a play for introverts. It may lead to loneliness, strange behavior and mental illness, but mental sound people may survive. To cure depression, it would be better to do physical exercises. What about long distance running?

I found it to be useful in the weeks after a short term crisis. Not Blitz. But serious long chess and slow study of positions has benefits:
It's disconnected from any emotions and troubling thoughts you may be having. While working through such thoughts is generally important, sometimes the intensity of a breakdown is too much and one must accept short term positive distractions just to regain grounded thinking. Once on solid ground then the deep work can slowly begin again.
Also slow chess is good in that it's grounded and disciplined, counteracting the kind of untrammelled, wild thinking common to mental health sufferers.

Definitive yes; brain neurons are fully re-programmable 2 solve this riddle. As an outlet of expression
chess is a discipline akin to martial arts, demanding focus on the present task rather than our own suffering; the "distraction" itself is the cure.

Jesus Christ people......don't you know a troll thread when you see it? The OP joined 5 days ago. Go ahead....KILL YOURSELF! or would you prefer that Chess.com does it for you? Its the weekend.....we're all booked up on killings......we can't possibly fit you in until next week.
Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps he recently joined with this idea in mind.

Run in nature is the best cure against depression ! Chess is a game that we all should play just for one hour after that you gone have proB .

The question can my depression be cured from chess is silly. But your thinking is shallow if you think such things can't help at least a little. As well as getting help, the quality of what we do day to day makes a difference. Music can help, art can help and so can chess for the reasons I mentioned.

There is connection between autism and chess as well and Bobby Fischer is one good example of this. Best thing for depression is physical exercise. I go running everyday regardless of weather. Even running 5 km per day is enough. Chess is also good but not online, you must play against real people in chess clubs and tournaments.
lol you trolling
No it won't. Depression is not sadness. It is more of emptiness in life, absence of desire to continue, not getting happiness in any activity(even if you win million dollars) and it is a feeling of no purpose in life. Even if any activity gives some happiness it will quickly vanish. Physical exercise releases some happiness neuro-transmitters. If you hv gone to gym for more than a month you would remember the inner happiness when you start developing muscles. Thats serotonin released in brain. Better find some job which involves rigorous physical work on body. And the key is the job should demand interactions with multiple people on a regular basis and less free time. Online chess won't help. Physical participation in tournaments might help a little but since you can't play more games in a day there, if you lose it will hurt more. Engage in interactions with multiple people and participate in friendly debates with your friends about politics or scientific topics etc.

Chess isn't going to cure depression. Depending on how much you enjoy chess and how much moderation you exercise in playing chess, it can make dealing with depression easier... or more difficult. It's nothing special in this regard; a lot of activities that give you something to think about and somewhere to channel your energies can have a similar effect.
