No magic bullet for the learning curve. If it got better from the ideas in the e-book then its great. What works for you might not work at all for the next person. That person finds someone else.
Can Reading eBooks Harm Your Chess?
Hicetnunc is right, you need to be actively engaged in the book. Also understand that there's much more to chess than just openings (Yay! I can copy Kasparov!!! ^_^ ) or tactics (Woohoo! Glamerous sacrifice that probably won't appear in my game because the opponent looking for his best move!!! ^_^ ) Spend some time on that boring, dry technique stuff. In fact, spend about a month or more of study on the basics of it (two months if you study an hour per day instead of two). People may tell you they know it isn't what leaves that matters but what stays on, but saying we know something and actually being able to apply it are two different things. Do about 20 tactical warm ups before every serious study session though, should be easy tactics so don't even bother signing into Chess Tempo or else the tactics will be too involved.
I was just looking over a previous post of mine where I mentioned that I don't use the "two board method" of reading a chess book (i.e. one board for the game and a second for the analysis) and there were a handful of comments about using eBooks since you can do everything with just the touch of a button.
This got me thinking...can that harm your chess? Does it make things TOO easy?
To me, one of the more valuable skills I've gained using the one board method of reading books is visualization. I personally have a practice of playing through analysis and then forcing myself to reconstruct the position from memory and if I can't then I will start over from the beginning of the game. This was a serious struggle at first. It was tough to not make mistakes.
But I persevered and I personally believe that this helped me to get better at keeping track of things mentally which meant that I stopped overlooking so many zwischenzug's from opponents during my games!
But with an eBook no effort is required at all. None. I wonder if there can be a long term detriment due to that. After all, there is no longer a need to remember if that rook was on b1 or c1, you can just push a button.
