So this was my great grandfather's and he recieved it as a gift from a friend he played chess with via postcard. He recieved it in the early 40s or 50s I think....unfortunately my grandmother, who gav it to me, has no record of who sent it to him or where it came from geographically. I did find a makers mark under both of the drawers and there is some addition writing in another of the drawers and it appears to be some type of oriental script the only thing I can conclude is that it isn't Korean (and I may be wrong about that). The pieces are stored in drawers and the set folds up on itself to make it about 9 inches tall when folded and 4.5 inches tall when set out to play. The one set I'm fairly sure is ebony and the other wood I have no idea perhaps a cherry? But the interesting thing is that each of the pawns are individually carved and unique "peasants". Well any thoughts or guidance? thanks for the help guys.
Can someone help me discover who made this chess set?
