Can someone tell me what happened???

In a blitz game I had the following position.

I had Qhb1# as my pre-move and then when it came to my turn, I lost on time??

How?

Latvianfan

Well that sucks.

RetGuvvie98

management changed it because of many user complaints that no time expired when their opponent used premove.

(nope, they didn't tell me, I'm making an educated guess - based on a premise: that things do not change without a reason, and that management had to direct the programmers to do the change, or it wouldn't have occurred.)

regards,

another user.

I don't like this change. The advantage of losing no time was offset by the risks of making a premove. If you're playing bullet I think losing time on premoves hurts when you need to make a routine mate quickly (say 2Rs v King) as this can often be done with lots of premoves.

everything takes some time, even light needs some time to travel the certain distance. So premoves that use no time constitute "unreal bullet chess".

. In order of importance, the bad features on chess.com:

Chess Mentor Variations not visible.
The unfortunate treatment of computer users.
No Live Tournaments.
Can the the absence of a feature be a bad feature in itself?
Premoves take 0.1 seconds.
The layout of Live Chess. Live chess 1 had the best layout.
The previous layout of LiveChess is still accessible.
The 100 page limit.
I agree with you on this.

Do you know of any other websites I can play bullet on where premoves take no time (like it used to be)? Bullet is now totally ruined here.

I doubt it. Chess.com was the only site that I had ever seen (and I've been playing chess online for at least a decade now) that didnt charge any time at all for premoves.

I remember on live chess game I played a while ago, it was standard, and I had exactly one second left. I lost 30 moves later by checkmate. Such defence in an obviously drawn endgame like KN vs KN would now be impossible. Another bad chess.com feature added. In order of importance, the bad features on chess.com:

What is unfortunate about their treatment?

We're currently in planning to remove the "No Live Tournaments" feature, btw.

Basically, they are playing chess like anyone else on chess.com. It is prejudice kicking off people whose brains are made out of a different material. Also, many of them had paid for membership, and their money has been lost. I must say, I can't think of any good reason from banning computer users from a chess-playing website.

At the risk of troll-feeding ...

Computer users' brains are not made of different material from anyone else's! The site rules clearly state that computer assistance is cheating. I already own a copy of Rybka. I do not wish to encounter it (or Fritz, Stockfish, Houdini, Hiarcs or any of its other peers) masquerading as a human.

You'll never get away with it! I'm going to start a protest thread immediately.

Why play bullet?

acbell1996

how do you pre-move?

Campione

I can see arguments for both sides but my main problem with this is if you're five seconds down in a dead drawn position - say opposite coloured bishops with a blockaded pawn each - you will now lose to the idiots who insist on playing on in an effort to win on time. I used to take great pleasure beating these honour-free morons with premove when they insisted on playing on instead of accepting a draw. Now it's not possible - I just lost K+R v K+R because of this. Not the end of the world, but will take some adjusting to.

Dragec

IMO playing with increment solves the drawn endings, not premoves .Wink

10 moves a second is still faster than humanly possible, btw.

I don't know about that.  There was this one blitz game I played.  I would move as my opponent let go of his piece and we would hit the clock at the same time.  (perhaps not according to the rules, but... of well)

I wonder if that chronos clock had such a delay like .1 seconds per move.
