There have been GM games that are 100% similar. Often draws.
Can two chess games be completely similar?
I've been searching on the internet for these kind of games by words like "completely similar games", after all this is a such an important event to be recorded in chess history. But I found nothing. Now, I'm really surprised. Can any body find a link for it?
Thanks.

There are multiple games that have played out every single move the same for the famous Morphy-Duke of Brunswick game, which ended on move 17. What do you mean by "early checkmate"?

Also, apparently it is pretty easy to play identical games against the hard computer here, as the recent thread on the subject indicates.
The chess 365 database has 124 games reaching this position. 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Bxc6 dxc6 5. O-O Bg4 6. h3 h5 7. c3 Qd3 8. hxg4 hxg4 9. Nxe5 Bd6 10. Nxd3 Bh2+. In 98 games Kh1 was played, which means 26 were drawn from that position. Countinuing 11. Kh1 Bg3+ reach 69 times and 12. Kh1 was only played 41 times. So yeah, there are a lot of identical games.
Of course a lot of these games are prearranged draws. http://www.365chess.com/search_result.php?search=1&m=23&n=38436&ms=e4.e5.Nf3.Nc6.Bb5.a6.Bxc6.dxc6.O-O.Bg4.h3.h5.c3.Qd3.hxg4.hxg4.Nxe5.Bd6.Nxd3.Bh2.Kh1.Bg3.Kg1&wid=11596 and the other way around http://www.365chess.com/search_result.php?search=1&m=23&n=38436&ms=e4.e5.Nf3.Nc6.Bb5.a6.Bxc6.dxc6.O-O.Bg4.h3.h5.c3.Qd3.hxg4.hxg4.Nxe5.Bd6.Nxd3.Bh2.Kh1.Bg3.Kg1&wid=11592.

This is played 8 times in my database. Some games ended around move 17, others on 15 and so on. But same game

There are at least 231 equal games with this line OTB:
Sometimes the draw is agreed after Nxd8.
As you can see it´s a perpetual check.

This game make NO sense to me!

I do not think "completely similar" is possible. Two games can be very similar. Or two games can be exactly the same but two games cannot be completely similar?

Why isn't "completely similar" possible? what is the diference?

For example checkmates after 2,3,4 or... moves.

If things are similar, they are like each other but not entirely the same.
"Completely similar" sounds awkward, since the things are not "similar" at all but "identical".

Regardless to early checkmates, I think every finished game is not similar to non of the finished games played before. I have no proof to it!!! Any ideas?
