Contrary to popular belief, chess ability and intelligence aren’t necessarily linked. Chess is more to do with memory, pattern recognition and thinking critically than anything else.

As for everyone else in this comment section, learn a little humility. One can consider themselves smart without boasting about it on a chess forum - and if you believe that chess is equated with intelligence, do remember that there are 11 year old
Grandmasters.

I'm really smart! My Rapid rating is 1247! Which is pretty good for my age! For some reason, pretty much everyone below the age of 13 is less than 1000 rated. Why are kids so low-rated?

I feel like most people in general are less than 1000 rated. Iirc 1000 is above like 75% of players.

I remember a chess staff member from a really old thread saying that most players on chess.com were rating around 1400 or something! It's incredible how the average rapid rating has gone all the way down from that to just 600!

Interesting....well yeah that must be an old thread cuz when i joined about 1.5 yrs ago i remember i was above average when i hit 850. Anyways, I totally agree with DoYouLikeCurry, especially about the point about humility. But anyway I do believe that chess and intelligence are not as directly linked as many believe. If you believe you are below average intelligence, I don't see why that would prevent you from improving from a beginner level. But I would advise playing less blitz (or better yet, maybe none at all) and focusing on rapid (preferably even slow rapid.) I see OP has played more blitz than rapid, and that isn't the way to improve, especially at this level.
