I'm a 800 to 1100 player I'd say and I'm aware I need tactics tactics tactics. What about attacking ideas and concepts? whatever?

To understand how and when to attack you need to study tactics.

Well, I personally think that you can use the tactics trainer and select what topic you want to do.  You can only do this if u gave version 3. If not, use this link www.chess.com/switch. The videos are also very helpful.

To quote Kramnik:
"I`d even suggest such a 'seditious' idea, that the attack is a more positional technique than the defense. The attack can be based on general considerations, while the defense must be specific. Preliminary counting of variants and taking into account the position peculiarities are far more important in the defense than in the attack."

3 concepts and an example:

Maybe the simplest idea is having more attackers on that side of the board (kingside or queenside) than they have defenders. When you have two or three more attackers, then ideas like sacrifice to remove pawn cover and open lines start to suggest themselves.

Another idea is having a locked center. Often an attack on a flank can be offset by central action. If the center is locked, then you'll have more time to maneuver the attacking pieces. If the center is opened, the opponent can gain some squares near his king to help defend, and also you'll have to balance attack and defense if their center action can generate any threats.

Another idea is space. Having more space (say, a pawn on your 5th rank) necessarily means the opponent has less space (their pawn blocking your pawn on the 5th will be on their 3rd). Less space means less room to configure defenders. So when you shift an attack or infiltrate to threaten new squares, it's harder for the defense to respond.

An easy example containing all these elements (# of attackers, the center, and space) is the classic greek gift sacrifice which is often seen in an advance french pawn structure.
