If experience matters then Ian Nepomniachtchi will win the candidates (the actual Championship is a whole different matter.) He has done a ton of prep and has the most experience (outside of Carlsen). His form is unknown but he does not play speed chess every day. Lei Tingjie has, in my opinion, the calmest demeanor and the highest quality of play. She also does not play speed chess everyday. (She has a boyfriend, but no kids.) If Fischer was correct in disparaging speed chess (kills your ideas) then neither Caruana, nor Nakamura, nor Firouzja will come in 1st. April 01, 2024.
