Hello! Can chess.com please allow me to block a country? I always abort games against people from India before making any moves, but now I can only resign and I lose ELO beacuse of this. Please allow me to block the country. I am not hating people from India but a disproportionate amount of people from India either cheat or stall games which is no fun. I cant count the amount of times I am winning and then they suddenly go AFK for 3 minutes only to then play with 100% accuracy as they have set up the position on nextchessmove, making moves exactly after 15 seconds everytime, even when they have mate in 1 beacuse they didnt realize the had mate in one. And the other 50% of the time you are winning they suddenly go AFK for the rest of the game only to make a move at the last second hoping you had walked away so your time runs out instead. PLEASE FIX THIS:

I'm fairly confident the site is not going to add a block/filter for actual or self chosen flags

they should allow you to abort i literally only play on 10 minute because of these indians who stop playing and waste time when theyre losing

twin_flank

#5 its the truth indians are more likely to waste time when losing according to my and prob most ppls personal experience

twin_flank

i had accounts here before but i quit chess before

It shouldn't matter who you play against, there's stallers and time wasters from EVERY country, USA, France, Spain, Germany, Netherlands... I've seen it all. You abort because of a nationality? Seems like a YOU problem. You don't know the person you play against yet you judge their character... not very sportsmanlike. It may seem to you like a lot are from India because India is a friggin big country so the number of people playing is big as well, but I bet the percentage of people playing isn't that different from other nations.

twin_flank

#14 i think theres a larger percentage of people who waste time in India and thats what the original poster said as well

OutOfCheese

And I say you don't have the data and let bias take over (can happen easily to anyone, I don't mean to judge). You just play more Indians and that makes it seem like they're aborting a lot when in fact I see no evidence to assume they abort more percentage wise than other countries. If you had a sheet comparing the percentage of wasters form different countries I may be more inclined to believe you, but as it stands the evidence here is "trust me bro, I have a strong feelilng". If humanity did science like that our wheels would be square.

People are just generally bad losers and not very strong mentally so they do some spite time wasting in the hope you resign, I've had that happen with people from all over the world.

insane

completely agree

twin_flank

#16 but i have played a lot of people from many countries but indians seem to be more likely to waste time and make fun of my country while ive not seen much people from the us which also a big country

twin_flank

#21 thats irrelevant because you are higher rated than i am and you dont represent all indians

OutOfCheese

The key phrase is "seem to be". In terms of evidence that is nothing. If you want to be sure about something and be sure your brain doesn't fool you you have to collect data.

Scientists do that all the time because they know how easy it is to fool oneself, basically everybody does it without realizing. That's not a problem as long as people are willing to accept that what they believe could also be completely wrong.

justbefair

By the way, if you keep aborting/resigning, you will likely get put in the poor sportsmanship pool. Then you will have to wait five minutes between games.

#24 Here, let me put my argument in a simple manner so you understand: I used to play a lot of chess. The majority of people i played were americans and indians but the americans stalled WAY less than indians even though i was playing not that much more indians than americans. Also, some indians were insulting my country when I didn't even say anything.

Chess.com ought to make geoblocking a premium feature unlockable in their most expensive plan. I'd pay for diamond if I could block indian and indonesian accounts from my searches.

Indians are much likelier to stall and misbehave in my experience. Additionally, most forum scams are posted by indian accounts. I think my experience on this site would be significantly improved with a geoblocking feature enabled.

OutOfCheese

I don't think "geoblocking" will ever happen (for obvious reasons).

Perhaps you shouldn't ask "y" if you're too sensitive to read the answer.
