caring for your chess sets

Is there anyone who knows what is the best way to care for your chess sets? I'm thinking about temperature and humidity.

Too dry might cause cracks (especially in ebony pieces), too warm might cause led (put in the base for weight) to expand and also cause cracks...

And is there a difference in this for antique chess sets (let's say: 19th Century) and modern chess sets?
