Carlsen in Porsche 911 commercial

Its a typical commercial trying to use the image of sports "greats" and really nothing more. They likely approached Carlsen about doing it since he's current champ and he's young/marketable. He probably sat OTB in front of a green screen for all of 10 mins. Easy money

I do love how loosely the term "sell out" gets thrown around.

Yeah they act like they wouldn't take the money in his position...

Well if they did they'd be selling out.

Oh yeah, you'd all do anything to be rich.  Good for you.

Nothing wrong with making money. It's what you do with it that shows your character.

And doesn't Carlsen have a hareem of like 20 super models? Not bad use of money if you ask me.

They are there to help him prep. So, that's technically just an investment, not money spent per se.

Or maybe he is really convinced it's a good car ?

Many people on this world seem to like Porsche well enough to shell out the money for one.

Im not sure sitting alone at a table playing chess is "doing anything to be rich." I don't think anyone on this site would turn down an offer to get paid for that. What are you supposed to just turn down every good opportunity in your life and get bent over the barrel every day? When you catch a break in life you take advantage of it its the same in chess!!

Clearly that's what everyone is saying.

There are a lot of shady, vile and underhanded ways to make money in this world. But an auto commercial? Fairly harmless.

I guess I could sell crack to kids but give my profits to charity and that would be O.K. with you?

No, the car companys are evil bastards.  Look at the early 20th century labour movement.  Read Ralph Nadar's Unsafe At Any Speed.  Car companys are vile.

You're not real big on reasonable discourse are you?

Reasonable discourse and chess.com?   I believe you only find that in the twighlight zone.

Just following up your asinine reasoning with more stupidity.  Of course it matters how you make money just as much as what you do with it.  Are you a human or a Ferengi?

Well it wasn't my reasoning, I was responding to your response to someone else. Nevertheless, I can tell from your posts in this thread that your the sort who isn't actually interested in discourse. Rather your only interest here is in broadcasting your righteous indignation.

And of course how one makes their money matters. That said, there are a lot worse ways one could make their money than a cheesy car commercial.

WTF is a ferengi?

Avatar of intensetbug

Ferengi?

According to the wiki "They and their culture are characterized by a mercantile obsession with profit and trade, and their constant efforts to swindle unwary customers into unfair deals."

Mr Carlsen should probably get a driving licence, and drive a few years, before getting a Porsche... Lets hope they don't give him a car as payment .-)

Ok. Now whoever designed that should not be allowed anywhere near any kind of design work ever again. That thing looks like a scrotum.
