Carlsen is less than 20 points away from immortality.

How soon can we expect the genius to achieve the  holy 2900 rating?

rtr1129

At 2900 you automatically believe in Jesus? I think you may be mistaken.

MrDamonSmith

Based on the math, Carlsen is expected to score  6.5 - 3.5  in his next tournament which is in April. If he scores  8.5 - 1.5  he will be 2901.

There's no guarantee it will be soon or indeed ever. The percentage needed just to maintain parity against his peers is becoming pretty huge.

Chessman265

Not only 2900, but Carlsen's goal is to hit 2903. If he hits that exact number, then he becoms the master of the universe.

mosai

At 2906, he becomes master of the multiverse.

Chessman265

2903 is the next prime number that nobody has been able to hit yet, therefore making him the master of the universe.

He was a carpenter you nit!

Yes, some of the 12 opossums were fishermen.

mosai

Fischer was a possum.

I'd rather say Master of inflation. Sorry to say that, but to me, 2900 looks like 2800, "nothing special". 3000 is actually a milestone humanity needs to achieve.

Chessman265

Lol, let's let Magnus do chess a favor, and let him enter 2200-2400 tournaments so he can raise his rating by one point per game.

And with that 1 comment no one on chess.com will ever take your opinion seriously again

Chessman265

2900 is nothing, it is true. It is just another number. 2903 is better.

Actually, Carlsen routinely avoids events with anyone rated below 2700 to avoid the hits his rating would take.  He has gotten some criticism for it, in fact.  That's why his rating is as high as it is now.

It's like Tactics Trainer...if you only do problems rated at or above your level, you are golden.  If you do problems below your level, you will miss some and each one tanks your rating significantly.

Chessman265

Dunno about that... The chances of a 2200 scoring a draw against nearly perfect play is highly unlikely. Maybe once every 20 games somebody would draw, still netting Carsen ~4 points.

DiogenesDue

Well, perhaps, at the 2200-2500 level...but if Carlsen played a lot of bigger tourneys with 2500-2700 level GMs, his rating would definitely suffer for it.

Meet_Your_Sensei

Even how high carsen gets, he is no matched for fischer an no one ever will!Cool

Reading through this topic has been very entertaining. I believe I read in another topic a few weeks ago that Carlsen draws games too often to make it to 2900/2903 any time soon. He loses points when he draws.

I see that there is at least one person on this site with a sense of what is really significant. Too bad there isn't a perfect number at reach (8128 might be impossible, even for Carlsen.)
