I don't think he needs to be the new anybody. He's just the first Carlsen.
Carlsen is the new Fischer?
they prefer simple positions? dont think so. all top players play complicated positions just because they calculate very far ahead.
I'm not saying he needs to be the new anybody, I'm just saying that there are a lot more similarities in their styles than what many people notice.
And they do prefer simple positions, they themselves have admitted that. But that doesn't stop them from playing brilliantly in complicated positions when the situation calls for it.
A lot of comparisons have been made between Carlsen and Capablanca, Carlsen and Karpov, but to me Carlsen greatly resembles Fischer. Both don't like to accept easy draws and like to play to the end, both prefer simple positions. Does anyone else get that feeling?
