Carlsen vs Kasparov

Both have a great level of skill...
Most likely Kasparov, though the match could really go either way.
Kasparov still holds Mangus for the long-term since he has held the title for longer being 15 years. And Magnus has had if for a little bit more than half that time being 7 years(going on about 8 years in the new year).
So due to this if Magnus can keep the title for 15+ years he will officially be named the best world champion of all time in terms of length and skill.
In my book though I have my preferences of old greats and masters, however there is no denying that if Magnus has more than 15+ years, he will be a better world champion than Kasparov even in his prime.
As in play, if we were to see a Prime Kasparov and a Prime Magnus I think it would be long and drawn out, however I do think Magnus would get the upperhand and eventually win out of Kasparov due to the grind and this is not due to Magnus being the better grinder, but just the better player in general.
But we won't know until we know how long the world championship will be held and only then can comparisons with skill and length be fully brought to the table, probably will be discussed in his retirement or when he loses the title eventually(as nobody will keep the title forever.)
Carlsen. Unfortunately Kasparov's been retired for a while, and will eventually drop one or two points that will give the match to Carlsen. Too much advantage.
I believe Kasparov would easily win in a match between a prime Kasparov and a prime Carlsen. He's the best player of all time and was raised in an era where the aid of computers was practically non-existent compared to the strength of processors today. If Carlsen had played along Kasparov and "friends" in that era, he would not even be top 5. As Kasparov called it, he blunders too much, and this is even with his entourage and the help of computers. Imagine if we take away that advantage. Carlsen would become one more in the "pack".

I agree with @TeacherofPain. Well said. I realize you are right, that Kasparov isn't at his peak time, so Magnus would win.
After 16 years Carlsen and Kasparov are soon going to play again. Who is your favorite?
