Today Carlsen has won against Anand in round 5 after 4 round of draws. What say you?

Debistro

It's good result, but it's not over yet.

watcha

The ending was simple, a passed pawn.

MrDamonSmith

Yeah, simple. I'm sure I wudda messed it up.

Getting there probably not. But the position itself was simple. Two passed pawns.

Makholm

wouldn't say its over for Anand, but he's certainly forced to play a bit more risky, which in turn very easily could give Carlsen another win

Debistro

I don't think Anand managed to beat Carlsen after 2010. He had his chance in Game 3 but blew it.

bean_Fischer

Anand has been playing weird recently. And move 38. ... e5 giving up the pawn. And 2 more g and h pawns. Total 3 pawns. He was confused.

watcha

1. c4 e6?

1. c4 e5!

1. c4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 c6?

1. c4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Nf6!

correction, round 5

Corrected..thanks

Makholm   Is absolutely correct

Carlsen will  learn  from the Israeli GM  Gelfend mistake from last year, when after leading in game 7  tried to play aggressively in black on game 8 hoping to secure his victory of the match. As we all know this approached backfired,  and  ended in his defeat .

Carlsen  will  play  for  a draw all  the  way  to the finish  line !

Validior

pretty sure Anand has a lot of fight left in him

His truth is marrrrrrrrrching aw-ah-haw-aw-on!

Yeah, it's quite a bit of disappointment to see Anand played today.

Among them are:

1. 13 ... Bc7 -> passive.

2. 37. ... c5 ---> e5 is much better.

3. 45 ... Rc1 ---> Ra1 is much better.

It will be interesting to see if Carlsen continues to push even after Anand offers a draw.

See the video. It's great.

Damn. I was hoping for 12 draws. :) Looks like there's a new world champion. Now all the fanboy's can run on and on about how he "destroyed" Anand.

Gigatt78

This is not yet over, there are many games to play.  Carlsen should play safe draws or more wins till the finish.  Anand has to take a risk to win otherwise he is in trouble.  This is an early prediction yet.  Let us see what will happen next.

Carlsen does not play safe or play for draws, and to try to do so would be the worst possible strategy.  He has to be true to himself as a player.

Remember just over a month ago he was only a bit better in an ending in the last round of the St. Louis tournament against Aronian, a draw gave him clear first place and $90,000 for less than ten days' work including travel.  He refused the draw and pressed on to win some 30 moves later.

That's who he is and how he plays.

It's what got him here.

I believe Carlsen's yearly income is over a million dollars. I don't think he was too worried about the money.
