Castle Question - what can prevent it.

Question: Is it possible for your opponent to castle on King or Queen side if one of your pieces (e.g. Bishop, etc) has a direct line unblocked into castle area? Please educate me on this, I thought this wasn't possible only to find out in my last game my opponent was able to.

Appreciate the education, thanks.

a king may not pass through check whilst castling the minor piece that was targetting a square did it target square king would have passed through or did it only target a square rook passed through if latter only then would not stop castling

More Info: My opponent had castled on Queens side; my white bishop has direct line into B8 square.

I think you are talking about this game:

Your opponent played 0-0-0.

This is perfectly OK

Only attacks on e8, d8 or c8 will prevent castling, These are the squares where the Kng starts, passes through or ends up.

Your attack on b8 affects nothing. Remember, you may even castle if the Rook is under attack.
