In my opinion, castling is a very good way to protect your king, Kingside or Queenside. Yes, there are many kingside or queenside attacks you can play, but this all depends on the position. if all of the opponents pieces are on the kingside, a good Idea would be to castle queenside, or vice versa. Other times you should not castle at all: if the pawns are gone, no pieces would be protecting your king, etc. This decision would be best left up to the player. Hope this helped!
