Is it legal to castle in order to get out of check/checkmate?
CompleteChaos
Just asking. No need to get offended.
CompleteChaos
Thanks though.
Walruskin
No, you are permitted to castle if you are in check or the king would pass through an attacked square. However, you may castle if only the rook or a square the rook passes is under attack.

I was playing the computer on chess.com and it wasn't letting me castle out of check!

That doesn't look right.  You know those clowns over at Wikipedia are always vandalizing the articles with nonsense, don't you?

Looks right to me.

It sounds right besides for the part about castling through check. I'm not sure about that. Isn't there somewhere on chess.com where they have official rules or something?
JamesColeman

You can't castle through check.

CompleteChaos
If it's your rook then it's not through check! 😉

You can only castle under these conditions; 1-you're checkmated 2- a black pawn is positioned on the h5 square 3-the first character of your your username is 'k'.
If all conditions are met and still failing to castle try restarting your device and router.
