Either figure out some way to stop the spammers or change the name to Chess Spam Forum.

Premio: A subscription to Chess.com may help.

Are you serious?  A subscription will eliminate the spam?

The only reason I come to this site is there are interesting questions and answers on the forums.  I play chess on another site because I like to create my own board and invite whom I wish.  That is the only reason I don't subscribe.  The spam has become so bad here that the forum itself has become a pain to even read so why would someone like me even think about subscribing.  Other than the spam this website is great for chessplayers.

Here's an idea.  Make free members unable to post on any forums until they've completed, oh I don't know, say 10 games or so.  And make sure they're not games where they make one move and then resign, perhaps making it so that they can't post until they've played at least 10 games and won at least 3 of them.  That way we could get rid of the spam accounts and only allow chess players to post.

That is not a bad idea.  Even though I am not a subscribed member and would not be able to post, everyone could at least come to the forum and enjoy some of the interesting posts.  I don't recall any other website I have gone to having the spam problem as here.  Could it be someone who knows the owner and has some kind of vendetta against him?

I would like there to be a sub-forum just for paying members. It's a bit more difficult to be a spammer or troll when it might actually cost you something,

N2UHC, that actually seems like a good idea. I wouldn't be able to post yet, but would be getting close, I think. I'm not sure if I've finished 10 yet or not, but it's close. I could certainly wait for a couple more games to finish before posting. Of course, then, the spammers would just probably make 2 accounts at one time, get on at the same time and play each other 10 bullet games, make sure they each win at least 3 and then they could go post their junk. I think your idea is good, though. It might deter that spam entirely.

That is a possiblity but I would think that part of the money made here is by advertisements and if no one but paying member were allowed to even look at a forum then that might hurt the bottom line.  However, anything is better than tring to look at pages and pages of spam.

Click under, "jump to forum category", in the upper right hand corner, below "search forums". A list will slid down, I think its towards the bottom.

They could, but I doubt many spammers would go to all that trouble.  They'd probably move on to greener pastures and find a message board that's easier to spam.

Think about it, would you want to go to the trouble to finish 10 games, have your account closed due to spamming, and then have to take the time to finish 10 more games?

And that's assuming the spammer even knows how to play chess to begin with.  But they could always make it so that you'd have to play chess against 10 different opponents so they're not opening up a puppet account to play the required number of games against.

There is a forum exclusively for Premium Members.

Yeah, but what I'd like is a place that is actually usable. That place is filled with some random stuff, but mostly discussions/complaints about the premium membership itself.

I would like to see a version of the forum with the same categories (off-topic, live chess, general chess discussion, etc), but with some sort of barrier of entry. Even if that barrier is that you have to have played a certain number of games or already have been a member for 10 days or whatever.

This probably wouldn't help at all, but I can hope.
