what is the advice by good players?

I like to play Caro Kann exclusively with black thus become better at playing it I have played the Caro Kann over 5 years now.

I know I may become a sitting duck cause everybody who meets me knows that. But on the other hand I know what to advoid and have my own way to play the Caro Kann.

is it a bad idea to stick to one opening or will you advice me to continue.

Overall try to stick to an opening even if you loose when playing it and learn from your mistakes, first learn a couple of good ones that fits you the best. I love Caro Kann too. However I suggest from time to time to try out some new opening so your thinking won't be monoton and you can learn new ideas and strategies from other openings too

A lot needs to be considered when it comes to choosing your openings. I have a whole section on openings on my blog that I know will help you.

In the caro kann there are a lot of variations, why not study the sidelines and look for

a line less studied so you can make your secret weapon against opponents who think

they know your game.

Also because of your experience even if they have something

nasty prepared for you, you are probably more knowledgeable about the

middlegames and endgames resulting from your position having played this opening a lot

more then your opponents do.

A line which I found very interesting was presented in:

Foxy 133 - Unorthodox Caro kann.

Very interesting:

For me 4. ...h6 looks like a loss of tempo. 4. ... Nf6 always leads to comfortable games. 4... Nd7 only if you KNOW it  well. After 5 . Bc4 dangerous territory. I have no issue with classical variation either....
