Chatting with Stranger

Hello everyone. It is only my own opinion, it might be wrong or might be right, everyone can judge it as personal.

Dear everyone, every genders, that ignores the start of conversation in long duration game.

What is the function of chat feature in game? For having good conversation, asking about suspicious thing that is potentially to be cheating, all of those are probably true, it is for good purposes. I do not expect chess.com built chat feature to facilitate bad behaviour person to get their victims.

As well as above, not everyone that starts a conversation will continue to disturbing things like flirting, romantic, sex, harassment, bullying, etc. Maybe there are people that just wants to have literally good conversation while playing the game or seeks for people to talk about same hobby (chess).

The point, is it really hard to just replying with "hello", "thank you", "I'm good, thanks" or replying "good game" back. That is true if your keyboard is broken. Although you are not interested to have a conversation with your opponents, you have had respect them as a HUMAN, you are not playing with a bot. In addition, one-way conversation does not last any longer. Someone that intends to start a conversation with you not only respect you as the opponent, but also respect you as a good person.

If you are having a bad day and you do not expect to hear anything from people, or you are really not interested to hear anything from stranger,  you can DISABLE your chat at first, so that is clear enough, also it will help you to literally focus on chess. In case you meet with toxic person in the beginning or it is going to be weird and disturbing conversation, block and report features can be used anytime, also disable chat.

So after all of your refusal to people's conversation that you might suspect it bad at first, who has better human being?

I might be misunderstanding, but are you saying that if one player begins to chat then the other player is obligated to respond? If so, I respectfully disagree. There are any number of valid reasons for the second player to not engage in conversation.

I wish people would chat more during games. I'm used to trash talking while playing but I guess I'll have to wait for the park players to start playing again.

Not obligated, but since the start of conversation is not disturbing there is nothing wrong to respond it (example like "how's life?"), although yes, you have right to not replying back. If you not answer it, then is it just still same when it happens in real situation? In a fun game situation? That's why if you do not ready to respond people, you should disable ypur chat.

I used "you", I mean it refers for them

I do not say it is obligated to always engage in conversation. If you are not interested or it's disturbing enough, yes you can leave it. But at least you respond simple conversation, as it is sign of you for giving respect.

i wish more people chatted back but they have every right not to speak if they dont want to

Kadenstarr

I've talked to almost all of the players I've played in my tournament over the past few months. Many of whom I still play games with, and talk to today.

That's nice

Most people are fine. Many are annoying. Some are just plain creepy. 10 pleasant experiences don’t make up for the one bad one for me. I just turn chat off—not worth it.

I more respect that rather than what I mention in this forum

Some people like to chat, some don’t. Some people like to meet people and are extroverted, others are introverted and shy. Some people are sensitive and easily traumatized by bad experiences, some have thick skin. That’s why every person has the choice, and you can’t really judge anyone for it.

this is the most useless post i've ever seen.

The disable chat function exists, and people can use it whenever they want.

End of story.

The OP was baffled by the reasoning behind disabling chat. Not all of us can look into the minds of others and explain their their choices. Perhaps we’ve managed to gently explain to him why those choices are made as opposed to simply brushing the whole thread off as pointless.
