Cheap tactics when loosing

Why do people delay the next move up to the very last minute???

Why will they always and inefably offer a 'draw'!

Why they will always find an off-the-game excuse? .... ´busy with other things´, was drunk, sleepy, tired, too late in the night´ etc, etc

Why they don´t just admit they were overcome on the board.

Am sure there are lots and lots of more excuses, please contribute.

It´s human nature, after all.

I have not once dalayed a game, in fact, I prefer to get losing games out of the way. Ilikeflags posted the same forum recently, it seems that there are 2 kinds of people on here, those who play reasonably and with fair play in mind, and those who don't. I keep thinking of forming a group for players who are like me, who pay fast (more than a move a day) and who don't delay. I would then just play members within this group. Like you Carvilla, I find it incredibly irritating that in a tournament, the game they win is over in a day, the one they're losing is strung out for a month- poor sportsmanship on their part. Because I play the losing games fast, my rating can vary by 200 points in a week, then a few winning games come in, and it rises again.

Me personally...take as long as you want.  The win will come eventually.  Its like trying to cheat death.

It doesn't matter of course, but it's occurred to me that people who stall losses will have somewhat higher ratings than those of us who get the losses over with. They will always have losses "on the board"  waiting for final resolution while ours are already figured into our ratings.

I am involved in a team match, and got paired against a 2079 rated player. The 1st game, he won, I would have resigned on his winning move, except for the fact he told me to. So, to annoy him, I played a few more moves before resigning.

In the 2nd game, he's dead, and has been for a while. He is now dragging this game to a full 3 days per move. But hey, 1 more move, and he's mated. (Saturday morning by my reckoning). I thought he was trying to get me back for my behaviour, but I looked at some other games: In one he has a lone  King against 2 connected pawns on the 5th and 6th, on the other side of the board. He's playing a move every 5 days.

In another, he was also 1 move away from mate, with time running out, He has a LOT of current games, and plays his moves in all the others.

What right does this player have to demand from me to resign?

Oh yeah, he's 2000+...

Totally agree Douggie: poor sportmanship. We should create a tourney one of these days..

Yes that would be good Carvilla

I like to say it was your chess clock! :) But your correct, theres no excuse the important aspect no matter how long it takes is that in fact you are winning! In correspondance chess time is not measured in minutes but days!

PS: Cuando vamos jugar amigo?

Carvilla,

I beat you and you left the game with a minute remaining. I had to wait out the clock. But you have the right to let the clock expire if you want. And I agree with you, it's just "human nature"
