Cheating Notifications

I've noticed in the past 6 months or so maybe longer, i don't get those notifications anymore about "your opponent has violated the rules or fair play" which i used to get quite often before. This is both on this site and Lichess.

Im just wondering if these chess sites have given up on monitoring this since cheating is becoming a lot more complex and harder to detect?

Hey @davesho11, we are still monitoring!

Please also report suspicious players via their profile, for more information here are some helpful articles:

Thank you so much for helping us keep the site safe and clean from abusers!

I have also noticed this which I find pretty strange. I don’t think i just suddenly stopped facing cheaters all together. My elo range has changed but to go from receiving likely one of those a week to zero for the last 4-6 months is strange.

I’ve come to the conclusion I probably reported too many people and my reports priority was reduced.

Really?

I get them often. Just by chance, individual experieces may vary. You might get 4 tomorrow. If you keep flipping a coin, sometimes you're goimg to get heads five times in a row.

@davesho11 I saw several opponents closed for cheating in your recent archive.

They may not be sending notices but they are still closing accounts.

Can’t keep spammers off the site. I am to believe you can catch cheaters?

I've only ever received two (one of which was only a few days ago) and never suspected either of them of cheating. On the other hand, I've played quite a few extremely obvious cheaters in the past who all have yet to be banned.

I'm not sure what to think anymore.

I average one or two a week.

Except they do catch them, as incredible as that may seem to you, analyzing an average of 20 million games per day and closing 3,500 accounts, 100,000 per month. This includes titled players: this June alone, Chess.com banned 25 titled players, including CM Abel Mathewos Tilahun, FM Evgeny Ermolaev, FM Gerald Hechl, FM Hayk Mirimanian, NM Alber Kadir Zor, NM Gabriel Gonzaga Garcia, and NM Jason Cigan.

Regarding spammers, the difficulty is that the only way to prevent banned account holders from choosing a new username and starting a new account (5 minutes work, at most, including getting a new email address) would be to require identification of some kind. But too many would say, "Oh hell no", and truck on over to Lichess. The "whack-a-mole" approach seemed to work fine for a long time but recently chess.com has seen a huge increase in numbers, too many for such an approach. But new (proactive) measures are in the works, likely including restricting new accounts from doing anything but reading in the forums.

You're a liar.

And it was never just one a day, LOL, closer to one a minute, then and now.
