Cheating in Blitz & Live 960

I recently played a few interesting blitz and Live 960 games in a row against people rated much lower than me (500 - 800 points).  They played solid, consistent chess  -  not that my standards are all that high!   Some ran out of time, or were stretched in the end-game.

Mostly I can't get interested in the subject, but it does raise the question of using a computer to play.  (why would one bother?! )

1.  Is it possible to do so during such short games?  I guess it's obviously possible, using Fritz or something, when you're playing one day per move  -  but with 10 minutes each, per game? 5 minutes?

2.  I actually won those games with a struggle.  Does this mean that they definitely were not using a computer program?  ( I've heard that chess programs start at around 2000, and my ratings are lower than that.)

I hope this is clear, and that someone can answer.
