Just like opening tables and position/game tables, end game tables are not dynamicaly calculated by computers but are static databases and as such are legal

For any position with six or less pieces (those with seven are still works in progress) they list every possible move and whether it wins, draws, or loses and in how many moves. They are less useful than they appear as most endgames have more than six pieces, solutions for those with less than six are often elementary, they won't help one play towards a favorable endgame, they ignore the fifty move rule, and they won't fix a lost endgame.

Rarely then, not in group/team notes, where you just chat continuously.

Aye, sablewhist is totally wrong - endgame tablebases are forbidden here.

He says "end game tables are not dynamicaly calculated by computers" which is slightly silly because all a tablebase is is a set of positions where all possible moves and replies have been... calculated by a computer.

And if you think that most 6 piece endgames are simple, think again.

At some point yes, a computer made the table, but when one uses the table the computer doesn't do any more calculations, given enough paper the table could be turned into a very large book and the computer wouldn't even be involved.

This also ignores that most ehighly detailed opening theory is done by grand masters working with rybka in the course of their pre-game prep. If I pull out ECO and look up a line to twenty mores in the sicilian dragon, the move originated with a computer, yet this is legal in correspondance chess.

It's a fair arguement, sableWhist, but the use of tablebases is against the rules of this site, no matter what we may think about how they were created. This is a quote copied from the chess.com rules section:

http://support.chess.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=17&nav=0,6

You many only have ONE Chess.com member account. You may NOT get any help from any person or any chess engine throughout the course of a game, including tablebases. You MAY use books, magazines, or other articles. You may also use computer databases (including Chess.com's Game Explorer). EXCEPTION: If both players agree for the use of a chess engine in an UNRATED game then it can be allowed.
