Some quotes worth noting--
Many top professional chess players do not take rapid, blitz and bullet chess as seriously as they do chess with standard time controls. Some dismissive quotes from top chess players on the topic of it are the following:
"Playing rapid chess, one can lose the habit of concentrating for several hours in serious chess. That is why, if a player has big aims, he should limit his rapidplay in favour of serious chess." – Vladimir Kramnik[26] "Like dogs who sniff each other when meeting, chess players have a ritual at first acquaintance: they sit down to play speed chess." – Anatoly Karpov[26] "Yes, I have played a blitz game once. It was on a train, in 1929." – Mikhail Botvinnik[26] "He who analyses blitz is stupid." – Rashid Nezhmetdinov[26] "Blitz chess kills your ideas." – Bobby Fischer[26] "To be honest, I consider [bullet chess] a bit moronic, and therefore I never play it." – Vladimir Kramnik[27] "[B]litz – it's just a pleasure." – Vladimir Kramnik[28] "I play way too much blitz chess. It rots the brain just as surely as alcohol." – Nigel Short[29]
All of those players listed above are from generations past. They are the dinosaurs of chess.
The highest form of chess today is blitz chess. 5/0 and 10/0. The format provides players with enough time to think and to move without simply moving by reaction.
+Kramnik's statement regarding "big aims" in chess is rooted in the standard chess format used to determine so called chess championships of old. It is outdated. One should aim to be great in all forms of chess unless he or she merely plans to aim for a mere title in standard chess.
+Botvinnik's comment merely makes it clear that he knows nothing about blitz chess. After all, how can 1 game tell you anything about a form of chess? or if he has made his assessment based on just one game, then I believe that it should not hold much weight.
+Karpov's statement compares the ritual of standard chess to stupid dogs.
+Nezhmetdinov stated that analyzing blitz is stupid, but of course this is the same Nezhmetdinov who likened chess play to the beauty of a woman and I would not be surprised if he slept with a chess set tucked between his legs at night.
+Fischer for all his greatness was viewed as a recluse and unhealthy mind. So his views about "ideas" may serve as your guidance in life, but not mine.
+Kramnik's statement called Blitz "pleasure". That's fine.
+Kramnik's comment about "Bullet" chess is irrelevant. Bullet is different from blitz 5/0 and 10/0
+Nigel Short... I have no respect for Nigel Short. Look for his comments regarding Tony. It is available online if you look for it. I will not waste anyone's time or mind by quoting Short
You conveniently left out Alekhine's comment regarding Capablanca:
"Never before and never since have I seen - and I cannot even imagine, such an amazing rapidity of chess thinking that Capablanca possessed in 1913-14. In blitz games he gave all the St. Petersburg players odds of five minutes to one - and he won." - Alexander Alekhine
