Wesley So is pretty good at chess, but I don't think he's very bright.

I'm not sure that making alpha zero publically available will make that much difference. Possibly it will change things a bit for the very best human players. For the rest of us, the conventional engines are already so much stronger than we can ever hope to be that I don't think a new even stronger computer will matter that much, however interesting and different the basis of its computation is.

Wow people... so many reply... the Lion is purring.

Suppose David had to lock the other IQ thread... too much politic. But there was good debate as well. If one can judge Australia clock... David should be sleeping about now?

A few quick points. Obviously, a high IQ does not mean one can just pick up Chess... and become champion. Even for RJF or Kasparov much effort was required. Make sense that a certain personality type... sort of Asperger, tunnel vision, not too social, will be good player. Obsessive, determined.

Indian hipster dude... on too much ganja or whatever. If player moving first always won... by definition White would win most Every game?!

And Wesley So is certainly Not dumb. Is he not one of most self taught players? So could be next WC. But at candidate tournament Lion say um... Lev Aronian would win. Doh.

Wesley So is currently 7th highest rated player in the world in classic time controls. He was briefly number 2 (behind Magnus Carlsen) in 2017.

So's chess skills are undeniable, but he's seems pretty dense otherwise.

Ummm...double that.  Wesley So is currently #14 in classic.  He fell out of the top 10 a while ago,

Now he's "So What"?

All the elite chess players are more intelligent than most of the population. I will says their iq would be in the top 1 percent.

When said and done... we may well be watching the best player, Carlsen. Lion could attribute his classic success to being super calm and few mistakes... but that cannot explain his blitz and bullet game, where he can better even Naka. Also his wide repetoire and crushing mid game. Beside, he Looks clever... Lion suspect his IQ could top any WC... though Lion prefer Kaspy or Capablanca.

Obviously, ding Liren would win. I remember when Aronian was the #3 player in the world and Liren had just broke 2700 and Ding just came over and dominated him. Plus, ding is the #3 player in the world right now.

See guys!  This is what 949 has been talking about all along.  China considers chess to be a SPORT.  They are producing a lot of the best players we’re seeing now, because of it.  Case closed, man.

kling, klang, however you define yourself.  Just go to bed, get some sleep...

It’s actually kind of weird. China has 2 other games: Chinese chess and Go. Yet China has so many players that play American chess.
