I did the same thing as well as studying for finals. Just got about 2 hours of sleep :P
It obviously can become addicting.
Blitz chess can be pretty addicting. On Live Chess, 1 0 is a frequently played time control.

A old man told me that chess is thinking man drug, do anyone agree all great thinkers love this game and get addicted.
I am so addicted to chess. Chess is why I failed 2 classes for the first time ever in my Senior year of high school; playing 2 hours of chess DURING SCHOOL and 4+ hours after school every day can cause problems...
