Chess and media attention

Sooo...

Anand is still World Champion! But how many people actually know?

In Belgium, I have checked the websites of my two favourite (mainstream) newspapers, the website of the national public service broadcasting and googled "Wereldkampioenschap schaken" (chess World Championship) on google.be and found practically nothing. Only a chess dedicated website (that did not show up in google search results) featured a couple of articles.

How much attention did the chess WC get in your country?

For completeness' sake:
Belgium:
- Public broadcasting (derecatie.be): nothing
- Papers

  •  demorgen.be: nothing
  • destandaard.be: nothing

- Chess dedicated websites:

  • schaakfabriek.be: four articles

EDIT: I just found a six sentence article on demorgen.be, not featured on the main page...

Well, what could the papers write about the match? It wasn't overly exciting and eventually the favourite won.

But I'm a bit disappointed that this one didn't make it into primetime news:

To see it positive, chess isn't for hoi polloi.

That doesn't stop other events from being extensively publicized. God forbid I have to look at another summary of a soccer game form our national team...

Nice link, reminds me of this:
