Anyway, when conversing with someone, maybe if you aren't thinking about what you're saying you shouldn't say it at all. If I were a mod, I'd easily and definitely give you a month mute right about now.

It's not surprising to meet someone or know someone who gets drunk. Well, I'm lucky to be born into a great family where almost no one has gotten drunk. But others aren't as lucky.

Indeed.

Did the mods ban llama or do they allow people treat other members of chess.com like that? Is verbal abuse and being generally nasty and horrible to people allowed here?

Yeah, they'd being really toxic. Usually they aren't like that though.

They'd being? What does that mean?

I'm on mobile, forgive me. I meant they were, not they'd.

Ah, no problem. My bad. I should've figured it out.

Ben Finegold has a story about a master level player who often thinks so hard in tournaments that he has a minor stroke and has to be rushed to the hospital. Very suspicious

Or maybe a seizure, that seems more likely.

It’s just so disappointing that someone can come in here and be toxic and drunk and abusive only for the mods to effectively condone it by doing nothing. Is llama friends with the mods or something seeing as he seems to have got away with treating people like that?

Well, the mods know Llama. Llama has several different accounts, and has a pretty good reputation, they are known. So when they say stupid things, maybe they put a blind eye to it. Not saying it's fair, but that's my guess to what happened if the mods did see this thread.

I recently reported a cheater. They were banned today... it took about... 4-5 days I think?

So they might mute me in 4-5 days, but it's silly to think your report would be acted on immediately (mods can mute me before that, but your report will take a few days).

As for mods, no, I'm not friends with any of them. In fact the mod(s) and/or staff in my friends list typically do that so they can keep an eye on you more easily (they are notified when you make topics for example).

And I've been muted (a few times) / banned (once or twice) in the past... I've been on the forums regularly for ~11 years now. Yeah mods know me but I assume they don't have particularly strong feelings for me either way (they don't hate me or love me).

I only have 1 open account.

I have a ton of closed ones over the last 11 years... and yes mods know me, but they don't do me any favors. The mods here are very good in that way... they will mute you if you should be muted. I trust their judgement... and in fact wish they were harsher (on everyone, I don't mean harsher on me only heh).

In fact a mod I was friendly with, Gchess, muted me once... I deserved it, so no hard feelings. We remained friends.

Will I be muted for things I said to @afficionado88 ? Maybe. I wouldn't be surprised, but from what I remember I didn't say anything so bad, so I'm leaning towards no mute. Mostly I think affici is being whiny.

Yeah, but that's not how it works. Mods don't get to choose the rules. Mods are told exactly what the various offences are and then what actions can be taken against a user for them... that's why the mods here are so consistent. If you were a mod you wouldn't mute me for a month.

And no one gets a 1 month mute... not for real anyway. It's always "contact us and you'll be unmuted a day later" type of thing.

(In my experience) if it's something more serious than that they just close the account.

Mutes have the opposite effect on Llamas...wink.png

So instead of apologising for being an angry abusive drunk llama calls me whiny. Nice. Please report this bully.

The way you treat people and talk to people is not ok dude. It’s not ok at all.
