Chess and medication

At first i am against drug use let that be said loud and clear.

On doctors discription i had to take lorezapam for 2 weeks, Warning one cannt take this medicine for longer or it will addict you with all serious negative addiction effects after 2 weeks. It behaves a bit like hard known hard drugs such as valium etc. so i dont recomment it all let that be sure

Dough to my surprice i noticed my daily chess tactics score went up 100 points during this period. For a long time i have been stable around some score not be able to pass it.
I am not telling you this would happen to anyone but to me that was a side effect, better concentration i think.
Or did it make me smarter ??.. well i dont know.

I never thought of that medicines could make people better at chess besides the regular cup of cofee

So now i wonder have people here noted they where better at chess while on medication too ?

And I also wonder perhaps should dooping checks be made for chess ?

no my chess is decreasing totally i totally mis obvious moves, that i knew by heart. there is a reason you shouldnt drive on medication because you can´t see. there is nothing worse then medication when it comes to chess.

you know it reminds me of the sitcom where they said we dont understand we thought we were singing well and the dog says: thats why the call it dope, the make you a dope.

im now probably not even 1/8 of my normal playing strength, not that im good but im way worse... usually i did my convekta tactics so often i should do em fast, now i need 15 minutes for tactics i usually need less then a minute for.

yesterday i hallucinated a checkmate so i had to resign. believe m emedication is the worst thing ever when it comes to chess.

well sure it depends on the type of the medication and also the persons health condition. Because of some issues i am to fast distracted, and less able to concentrate, and miss a lot of sleep, and easily panic.

My little brain computer has a hard time to process everything around me) it gets overwhelmed most of the time so its hard for me to stay focused

But also before (speaking a few years ago) when my health was ok, my chess rating was a lot higher then it is these days, then i ranked as a 1700 player in correspondence chess (3days p move) these days its 1300~1400 and live chess i can't do good at all anymore. I used to play 5 minutes game and play them in 2 to 3 minutes and got bored if an opponent used all his 5 minutes (10 min games where terrible slow to me). I am now exhausted in a 5 min game if i finish it in time.

The medication i take doesnt make hallucinate dough, its not like recreational drugs (its not medical weeds nonsense). Its more close to Valium.

There are various nootropics for cognitive enhancement, such as piracetam.  With drugs, you get an immediate effect independent of the body's inherent capability to adapt, and this is why certain substances are called drugs.  Evaluation of such a statement shows that taking drugs you are viewing as operating from a deficit.  This is a negative expectation and therefore long term is not profitable.  What is smarter is to investigate specifically what nutrition and herbals will help with cognitive function.  L-theanine, Sage herb, fish oils would be far more useful in long term cognitive improvement or focus.  The pharmaceutical industry is designed to make money through evidence based medicine tailored for the masses, not the individual.  Through various trials medications are "proven" to work and hence can be relied upon for various effects due to valid trials on many individuals.  The problem with evidence based medicine is treating the individual like everyone else.  Medicines or drugs are to be relied on as a last resort.  They are expensive, and unless absolutely necessary you are supporting a barbaric industry supporting free money for drug executives.  Have you read about psychological effects of various Statin drugs?  Let's see, short term memory problems, long term memory recall problems, anger management issues, all in the pursuit of lowering cholesterol, and in the meanwhile you may also develop diabetes.  Drugs are barbaric unless absolutely needed, stay far away from them.

well i rather wouldnt take it, and dont be dependent on medication.
some people just need medication, and sadly i am now one them too.

Not sure is fish oil is realy helps dough, better might be nuts i think.
The brain is the most hungry organ we have, uses most energy.
Nuts do contain al lot of that.
So yes i can imagine proper food would give better results.
Having that said dough, i allready always do eath healthy.
I less like fatty food (hamburgers cocacola etc), i prefer beans nuts fish, and prefer thea over cofea and i dont drink cow milk. (thats for cows)
Balance in life  work / social / health etc its all important.

Still dough these days it seams the medicens that can enhance someone only be it a short time, such things would count as dooping and so ..
i wonder should tests become a requirements in chess too ?
Just as there are test for cycling bikes in the tour de france (tour de dope)

I would not recommend it as a practice, but it's possible the medication made you a little more relaxed. Being tense/stressed, as you might be playing a game of chess, can cause you to make unwise moves. Wouldn't think it would have a big effect on your overall rating.

yeah thats true i make unwise moves all the time when stressed

Yeah, these guys are whacked.

Next thing they'll be saying not to drink beer with valium!

Apparently your stress / pain was holding you back.
