Some Annoyingly Bad Chess Board Marketing

Look at all of these brands trying to sell chess boards but setting the pieces up wrong in the product images:

Bruh. I am currently searching for a new chess board because mine is like a gazillion years old. I keep running into these trashy brands, though, that sell chess essentials but don't actually know the slightest thing about chess. It's super sad and it makes me not want to buy any of these boards, even though they all look good. Thoughts or recommendations?

Amazing!

I personally would like to play with the pieces on the first board. The pieces look to much the same.

I was looking to buy the pieces on the second board because they're exactly my style, but then I noticed that the board was set up wrong in the product image and decided not to support a chess brand that doesn't know chess lol.

Why is it so troubling to you that there was an error in the setup? It’s just for show. If you like the set, buy it…..then fire off an email to the company pointing out their unbelievable error in piece setup.

Bro you joined 2 weeks ago stop acting so tough and cool, you're 900 lol.

The cheap Chinese boards are actually not bad at all. The pieces that come with them are very ugly and are of poor quality sometimes (not always). Make sure the board description says “inlaid” board which means that each square isn’t just painted or printed but has its own square piece of wood like a small tile. Those are usually very nice.

I do not recommend spending any significant money on a wooden board. Some may cost a lot and they will be nice at first but you won’t know whether it will warp or fade if exposed to sun, low humidity, high humidity, or scratches. I have two boards by the Polish chess equipment maker Wegiel. I got them on Amazon for I think what was $35 and $45. They’re good low cost boards. The irony is that I do not want to use them because I don’t want to scratch them. I just use either a roll out plastic board, or a cardboard folding board. That way I can relax and not worry about accidentally damaging them. I can put a cup with coffee or plate of food on them and they’re fine.

As I said in a previous comment, I refuse to support a company that sells chess stuff and can't even set the board up correctly.

Wow, thank you for that response! I have never heard of Wegiel, but will definitely look into their boards because of you!

Ratings don't determine tough or cool... it's just chess

Anyway, I've seen worse chess board set ups, so I wouldn't judge a company if they accidentally switch the king and queen spots.

Yeah, I’ve seen that photo before lol. Also, true, but still… not cool to market a chess board like this.
