My wife picked me up a copy of Bobby Fischer: Profile Of A Prodigy. So far, it's been a wonderful read. It's nice to read a chess book that's not simply a strategy or tactics text. What chess books are you folks currently reading?

If you enjoy reading chess topic books, I recommend "The Art of Learning" by Josh Waitzkin.

I'm currently reading "Checkmate" by George Koltanowski.  I'm a relative newcomer to chess with a rating of about 1150.  This book has opened my eyes to such things as sacrifices and the many ways mate can be achieved.  I'm learning the concepts; now I have to learn how to put them to use.  If you are rated over 1300 and certainly 1400 you probably will not benefit from this but it's good for someone like me.

Here's a new book on my list: Pandolfini's Ultimate Guide To Chess. It's great book for beginners such as myself. It covers a great deal of information as a conversation between student and instructor. For those of us who are learning the fine points of the game, books that don't give detailed explanations can hinder us, since we don't fully understand the important points of the lesson. I still use those books because they force me to go through every possible way the position acquired and why it is important. I guess I'm not an expert when it womes to chess, but I'm an expert at being a beginner and can at least pass along how well these basic books worked for me!!

It's this going to be included as part of Chessmaster 11?

I tend to jump back-and-forth between books. This week I was reading A Practical Guide to Rook Endings, Fundamental Chess Endings, Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual, and Pandolfini's Endgame course.

I´m currently reading My system. Does anyone have any tips on how i can get the most out of it?

I´ve just read the first couple of pages about the centre and development and a little bit about open files for the rooks.

It seems pretty basic thus far, how much more complex does it get?

I really liked "The Art of Logical Thinking" by Neil McDonald. It was excellent. The analysis and reasoning behind each players moves makes it a good read. I am currently reading "The Art of Planning in Chess" by the same author.

The Art Of Learning. While not exactly a chess book it's a good read for improving your life and reaching your goals. I got a really nice email from Josh when I was going through a rough patch in my life a year ago. He is a really good guy and has a lot of interesting things to say. I use many of his techniques when approaching my music. If fact chess and music share a lot in common. I also just read (for the 4th time) Pandolfini's Ultimate Guide to Chess. It is an interesting approach to teaching chess.
