Chess consists of three things
- Judgement
- Planning
- Tactics
You have to be strong in all three.
You actually just made me start laughing. Good job.
Seriously. You just "proved" that chess is all tactics...because of rules of the English language. Does that sound right to you? Probably. You're obviously pretty damn sure of your (wrong) opinion.
Also, one more thing worth point out...
--Thinks chess is all tactics
--Remains 1500
Hmmm...
I quoted a master, and backed up what he said with wikipedia(none of it is 'my' opinion). All you've done is 'rattled on' about nothing, you do realize, you attacked me on here. But, like I siad, you attacked a famous GM's quote, which I was using in jest(to prove a point, as the quote was meant to do) to start with.
Quit being such a brat.
My recommendation is to watch the videos on youtube especially the lectures on the St. Louis Chess Center and Kingcrusher. On Chess.com, Daniel Rensch is my favorite. Packs plenty of info into each video and pretty much replicates what's in the books. Everyone's knowledge pretty much draws from the same as sources, e.g. classic books and games.
...except it obviously is your opinion, and you're now trying to make it seem as if it wasn't to deflect the embarrassment because you now realise it's wrong.
I've "rattled on" about nothing, and yet, instead of disregarding my pointless "rattling on", you have continued to argue. I think that implies it's not nothing, hmm?
I would also like to point out you were taking the quote completely seriously, and now you seem to have inexplicably changed your mind and you're using it in "jest". Hmmm. Are you contradicting yourself now?
I think you realise you've lost. Better luck next time, eh?
No, if you read my original comment, you'll see I was trying to help the OP, by pointing him towards his tactics trainer vs a chess book. The quote was obviously just to help sure up my advice.
Then you come along, like a spoiled rotten brat, who has never had anything bad happen to them EVER in their life, SERIOUSLY do you live in a bubble? Try being helpful next time.
As far as chess being 99% tactics, I never said it was 99% tactics, a famous grandmaster did. You are the one that started attacking me(about his quote), and treating me with about as much respect as one would a fly. Get some class kid!
Implying you agree with him.
And now you don't?
Hilarious presumptions about me by the way. It only makes you look stupider.
I'm going to stop arguing with you now, because there's no point, as you obviously realise you've been proved wrong. Have a nice day.
No, it isn't an assumption, you're extremely bratty.

Hey i have a elo on chess.com of 1134. I have been playing for 3 months and i want to improve my game to the next level. I have the book "Logical Chess" but i would like another one since "logical chess" goes through the games but doesnt give you other advice. From my rating and experience what would you recommend a player of my stature? Two books i have heard to get were "My System" and "How to Reassess your Chess" What would you guys recommend?

See that list. Try the tactics book by Bain. Called Chess Tactics for Students. Use the online Tactics Trainer too if you have time.
Also, I would recommend Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess.
Implying you agree with him.

For a start, I do not understand why you have the misguided belief that I am a child. Even if I was, it would seem you only insult yourself, as you have been proved wrong by a child.
And "badly behaved', because I'm disagreeing with you and proving my point to an extent which you cannot. Right. Could you possibly just be frustrated and annoyed with yourself, and thus be making crude and unfair presumptions about me?! Gasp! Impossible!
Let's just take the word jackanapes(since you don't understand what a brat is, even though the definition is right there in your face to read).

To the OP. I may not have a high rating but I've been playing chess for years, and what I noticed a lot in Amateur players is they just trade trade trade without much of a plan sometimes. Before you consider trading or attacking, you should consider the pawn structure that you will be left with after the fact. Since you are diamond I suggest you look at the video's there, only opening for now until you got them down, and after you are done, look for IM Rench's pawn structure 101 video on chess.com. Just type pawn structure 101 on the search on chess.com and you will find it. After you study those videos well, you should consider getting pawn structure chess by Andrew Soltis. You can learn how to trade pieces all day, but if you are playing with a good player, they are probably not going to let you win by an easy tactic, you are going to have to learn how to 1.) reconize good and bad pawn pawn structures. 2.) How to exploit a good one. 3.) How to change a pawn structure favorably.
Learning about pawn structure will put you over the top. Yeah, learn your tactics, by whatever medium you prefer, but don't ignore pawn structure. The reason why you won a game with a tactic is because you had a favorable pawn structure, remember that!
The tactics videos are also good to watch at the beginner level if you do not know those tactics yet... but keep in mind those types of mates rarely happen. They are just there just in case! They are more complicated than ordinary mates yes, but I've found it hard to setup a position to get one of those mates. Those videos are easy to watch and learn from so if you want you can watch those videos first if you don't know those common mating nets. But look at the opening videos, espcially the ones further down. They are very helpful to a beginner. It will be helpful that you go through the whole study plan for beginner but you should start there, and read pawn structure chess if you can. I am reading it now, and am starting to notice things I didn't notice before. Silmans books are good, the Amatuers Mind is a good one that talks a little about pawn structure as well, but unless you are capable of reading multiple books at a time you should probably just stick with pawn structure chess until you finish it, then worry about other books. Or read another book first, then pawn structure chess, or don't read it... I dunno I just believe pawn structure is what seperates the wheat from the chaff if you are talking about bad and good chess players.

Winning Chess Tactics by Seiriwan
Winning Chess Strategies by Seiriwan
An Endgame book - Preferaby one of the less dense ones - those 500-page endgame manuals would be overwhelming at your level.
The Inner Game of Chess by Andrew Soltis
These 4 books should get you to 1800 pretty quickly.
Uppity is a cooler way of saying impertinent.
Anyway for improving you'll want Averbakh's Chess Endings: Essential Knowledge, Nunn's Understanding Chess Endgames, and My System. Tactics can be done with software or online and there are databases available to play guess the move so you could work on a thinking system and practice calculation and judgment.
Uppity is a cooler way of saying impertinent.
Uppity, with a childish attitude.
You're funny.
I will end this with a poem i wrote about myself:
There once was a bratty mcbrat
Who always was ruder than crap
He knew that he knew it all
Yet over himself he'd constantly fall
You'd think he'd learn after a while
And stop and examine his style
But it just was not in his cards
To ever have any real charms
So after much time of fail
He still never broke through the veil
And in the same spot he still stands
Forever lost, unenlightened and jammed
No ssst! It is worth fighting over.
Strategy is for example; the fight over the open c file. Where will i place my major and minor pieces and pawns to win that fight. (immidiate maneuver too.)
Tactics are for example; because of this pin on your knight i can win your bishop otherwise you will lose your queen as well.
The 2 words are to point out 2 different aspects of the game. Let them be 2 different things.
And of course the might be used at the same time, but when you are taking a leak and chewing gum at the same time, that doesn't mean that you are, well you get the picture.
