chess clock issue in 5 min game

Hello all. Is anyone else having an issue with the chess clock? I just played a game where my opponents time was down to 5 secs...I had around 15. His time basically reset every time he moved giving him “extra” secs in the game. I watched his timer as we played and his clock went to 4 then 2 then 3 then 2 then 1 then back to 2.5...1.5... 0.1 then back to 2.5 , while mine simply ran down to zero and I lost. I totally had him but his clock gave him more time so he won. Is there some kind of extra clock reward for members or am I missing something? This has happened to me on several occasions. Is there a setting in my profile that I’m missing. Thx

You were a piece up with plenty of time left (2 minutes versus 1 minute) but your play seemed purposeless and you didn't really seem to have a plan to force trading down, pushing your pawns or otherwise taking advantage of it. 

As a result, you soon fell behind on the clock and lost.

There might have been some adjustments for lag but that is not why you lost.
