Chess.com warns members if they abandon to many games.
Chess.com can and should do something about abandonments

When you can show concrete proof that an opponent "abandoned" a game, and it wasnt due to any of the following:
Power outage.
Kid unplugged the modem.
Lightening strike.
Flooding.
Fire.
Bill was not paid in time.
Rodent chewed through a cable.
Satellite died.
Phone battery died.
Just to name few.
Then feel free to submit your proof to chess.com. Maybe they will implement it.

This way, the loser who stalls is just staring at the position rather than making the opponent suffer too as some kind of cheap vindication. There’s nothing worse than waiting for a 15 minute game to time out because the opponent is a jerk.

what are 'engines'. i just joined today and getting to know game [application]
Engines = flagging = cheating = vacaction abuse = no rematch = time cheater = lag = tears = WHINE = the dark side of the force

Engine definition in terms of chess is using a chess program like stockfish or Rybka or Houdini (to name a few) that provide the best move (Based on the engines rating) for the position. Generally these engines provide moves usually more accurate than something Magnus Carlsen can do hence it's considered cheating as ur not the one making the moves, but a program.
wow, so intelligent.

People who abandon games too often start to face consequences such as having to wait between starting new games and being paired with others who do the same thing.

1)Post the players game abandonment percentage for the last 50 games by the player name on the opening board and allowing the Challenger with an opportunity to choose not to play those with a history of game abandonment,
This is a very good suggestion worth considering.....

LOL!

anyway, i totally oppose penalising players who abandon, getting annoyed over an abandonment that only takes a few seconds shows no patience at al, very typical of low rated players with no ambition bitching about stuff of no consequence.
I'm also against penalising those players but the first suggestion is worth considering, isn't it?

posting abandonment percentages is grand, rishi. but i think members should at least have a choice, thats what makes us people, one persons cuppa tea may not be anothers.
That's right! Our lives matter!

It's very very simple to stop/punish this.....if you abandon a game you lose the points! It should count the same as losing the game.

one of the reasons ppl don't play long time controls. nobody wants to get stuck waiting 15 minutes the clock should run out in a 30 minute game. cuz your opponent is a bad loser... chess.com should make it that if ur opponent hasn't moved for 3 full minutes that you win the game .

Disconnection should count as a forfeit after a set amount of time (say, 15 minutes). As an internet chess player you must account for disconnections. To not do so is wrong.

They can’t do something like that, if I am trying to calculate something very complicated in a 30 minute game it can take much more than 3 minutes. If the position is easily winning and my opponent isn’t moving then I usually just start another one while I wait for the move.
The abandonments have gotten beyond annoying. Over 50 percent of the games I play are abandoned and chess.com can't/won't do anything about it. Very simple solutions are available and I sure they have more experienced people than I. Very simple solutions could include
1)Post the players game abandonment percentage for the last 50 games by the player name on the opening board and allowing the Challenger with an opportunity to choose not to play those with a history of game abandonment, or
2) Players who abandon 5% (or less) of their games in a week should be ban for a period of time, the second occurrence ban them longer and even longer the 3rd.
I thought about for 5 minutes, I suspect if Chess.com thought they could com up with an effective way to control the abandonment. It not rocket scientist.
