And I don't believe this is a crazy opinion. There are many places on earth where it's in their culture to shun anyone who killed himself, and to never even utter his name. In Christian Europe not that long ago, they would not be given a funeral and would have an unmarked grave. It's an entirely progressive idea to give suicide any leniency.
Chess.com continues to promote a suicider to it's vast audience
We don't yet know whether or not his cause of death is suicide. The blunt of your argument is built on speculation and is disingenuous. You are making serious judgements against Naroditsky's character based on something you don't even know is true.
Anyone can celebrate and remember the good things Naroditsky brought to the chess world and simultaneously recognize that suicide is not a good thing to do. (Not saying he did commit suicide of course). I believe that chess.com is promoting the good things Naroditsky brought to the chess world rather than promoting the act of suicide.
I knew it.
So even if it wasn't suicide, Kramnick killed him. Nice. I knew it would take that turn, and so did every other bullied snd hounded contrarian on this site.
Look.
If it wasn't suicide, there is an inconvenient truth at play. Medicine bottles come with Simple Instructions, dumbed down to a 10 year old intellect. Naroditsky was a Stanford educated Adult. it was Death by Negligence. Death by stupidity. Daniel won a Darwin Award. All on his own.
Get over it and move on.
Several people on these many Anti-Demon forums have patiently asked for printed examples of cyberbullying by Kramnick against Naroditsky. There has been nothing persuasive.
When Kramnick made the off the cuff remark, "Don't do drugs," it triggered the whole chess world and beyond. Sure, it was crass, and yes, the timing was ... ahem... indelicate.
But was he wrong? If it's now looking like Death by Stupidity, well, Kramnick was right. Wasn't he. Don't do drugs. Follow the Simple Instructions.
With the Naroditsky Cup we see the continued promotion of a person who committed suicide. Why am I so against putting Naroditsky on a pedestal?
Given the large amount of impressionable kids who see this, they will think that suicide isn't as horrible as it is. It gives them the idea that you aren't at fault if you kill yourself-- that if external factors sway you one way or another, it's no wrong on your part. It wasn't your fault, it was x.
It is a selfish act, with complete disregard for the suicider's family, friends, and audience. It goes along with the immoral idea that you have total authority over your body and mind. We as a civilized society believe we have inherent responsibilities to others and ourselves.
There are two wrongs at play here. The suicide itself, and the leniency given to the suicide. Two grave scandals. The only evil that people are noting is the external variables (which are only speculation) that don't even compare to the more probable internal factors of Naroditsky's mental state.
People WILL be influenced to kill themselves, because with Naroditsky's death and the promotion of his character, they figure that suicide is not inherently wrong. If I'm wrong then let me know how.
......
This is not a recreated topic. My other one was more focused on the evil committed by Naroditsky, this one is focused on the evil done by his unabashed promotion.
