its for ddos protection, it literally says "ddos protection by cloudfare"
chess.com is checking my browser
The title message and sometimes a captcha comes up when i try to log in.Why is this? Are they downloading somwthing?
It's nothing to worry about. The message is a result of the site using Cloudflare DDoS protection. I think it only kicks in when the site gets too many logins in a certain time period, which doesn't happen too often.

It can also happen if you try to access a URL that requires authentication to access. I have it happen a lot when my session has timed out and I try to access messages.
Well, I get this check from Cloudflare/Firefox also & I also get unwanted browser behaviour eg many chess.com pages (blogs/opening explorer etc) never fully load, making using them impossible. The only fix I have is to clear data (cache) & I have to do this repeatedly which is very tiresome (annoying). I asked for help at Firefox & have only been told to clear cache/data, which is not a permanent solution. I have turned off my router, but presently this has had no effect. I have had an issue once where my broadband provider (BT) blocked my access to chessgames.com website & wonder if it is a provider issue, but all I know is it is a real pain experiencing this continually!
