Same as cheating in a computer game don't you think @MattFarell?
Chess.com players nowadays?

Well, cheaters have a nasty surprise waiting for them. Once their rating gets high enough... over 2000? Not sure... chess.com regularly analyzes their games and compares their moves to the top engine choices of different chess programs. So engine monkeys can only rise to a certain level before they are almost guaranteed to get caught.

Yes indeed. The thrill of analyzing every angle just to get an edge in order to win or to draw a game. But with computers chess became systematic. There is a certain move to make and you have to memorize lines which have been generated by the computer to gain an edge.
Chess has become a game wherein players who memorize most of the lines has the higer probability of winning.

@blueemu.... Just read your forum with regards to the sicilian. It was awesome
The "Kids, don't try this at home" thread? That was a nerve-wracking game!

Hilarious. May I have permission to use your term “ENGINE MONKEYS” ??
Sure. No charge.

Yes @blueemu . One miscalculated move and all is lost.
It was like a sword-fight at the edge of a cliff.
It's collected 99 comments so far... some of them from IMs (International Masters) and FMs (FIDE Masters).

To me, when people use engines to cheat against me, I just try to use my fresh-meat brain to use my sharp sword to prove that their engines are too weak to beat humans! Hahaha.

I still hate it when people cheat when they can just express their creativity and just learn the game. I care more about my overall skills, not the rating points first. I agree that engines did have negative effect in chess, people should at least only use them for analysis, entertainment, some good ideas, not for cheating out just for the points.

They gain a dopamine boost from winning. It's make them feel good. That's why they cheat. They don't care about being good for real.
Really? You gotta be kidding. I wouldn't get a dopamine boost, I'd get kind of depressed about it I think. I'd sit there thinking to myself "I didn't achieve jack."
The only enjoyment I can picture someone getting out of that would be for those who take pleasure in ruining something for someone else. (which is sad)
If you get a thrill of accomplishment out of cheating to win well... (that's even sadder)
And I'd go so far as to say those who feel they accomplished somethings with cheating can't be very smart, and have likely never truly accomplished anything in any endeavor they have undertaken in any activity whatsoever in their entire lives.
Because anyone who ever truly felt real accomplishment would be wholly unable to feel it over a cheated victory.

These playing attitude of other players refuting to engines and flaging other people just for the intention of "Revenge" has become rampant. What will be the solution? I don't know. We cannot control all acounts and even staffs are human too. They make mistakes.
Of course staff can make mistakes. But the chances is like 1% or less.
If your friend's account is closed due to violation of fair play. It is >99% likely that he is a cheater.

I'm fairly proud of my rather pedestrian rating for two reasons. One, I've never attempted to memorize any openings other than what naturally occurres from playing. Two I've never had a chess lesson. And three, (I know I said two reasons) until last fall I hadn't played more than a handful of casual chess games since I got out of prison over 20 years ago. Kind of a tangent but pretty sure a gangbanger (criminal kind) I played in there was some kind of chess savant, he moved instantly seemingly without thought every move. Never saw him lose. Playing him was like playing a computer sitting across from you.
Long time ago I realized that reaching my true ceiling in chess would require committing to memory all the openings and variations there of. And just as quickly realized that wasn't me.
I love the creativity, not just memorizing what others have figured out.
Last thing on the banned cheaters and unlimited accounts. At the very least that means they have to rebuild their rankings each time. I would imagine even the most brain dead cheater who gets some thrill from an unearned ranking would get tired of that eventually.
This issue in chess.com (or maybe all online chess sites) became the norm. Most players refute in using chess engines to gain an edge or to earn ratings. I mean yeah, I am playing with the computers or even if you loose because your opponent uses an engine it is still a game you must win. But wouldn't it disappointing thinking that "Oh no, i'm not capable of beating at this rating."
Why would other players would do this kind of activity? What will they gain? How would their opponents feel?
And to make my claim more confusing, players who loose by their opponent would tend to flag them as a "Violation of Fair Play". I have one friend of mine who was really good at chess but then his account was closed because of fair play.

I think a proper etiquette towards chess could be one of the solution. But then it is up to the players if they respect that much.
Have a blast! Happy piece pushing!
