chess.com ratings compared to fide

hello,

so i ve heard people say that online ratings are about 300 points above FIDE rating, can someone with a fide rating share his experience?

is this the case for all online ratings or are ratings on other sites more accurate?

and finally should a page aim to have ratings more accurate compared to fide or rather not because users are happier as it makes them feel stronger than they really are?

thanks

There are many prior forum posts trying to answer this question.

In short, there is no formula to compare your two year old 1400 standard chess ratings to FIDE over the board ratings.

Any rating only compares your performance to others on the same site, using the same time controls, and rapidly lose predictive value if you don't play often.

i am mostly interested in classical time controls since bullet is quite rare OTB and whether players with fide rating have managed to find a correletion to their online rating and as i already said, if a page could find a way to have more accurate ratings, lets say starting all rating from 1000 or maybe ask questions to new accounts before they assign a rating so that it is more accurate, would they do it? or would more accurate ratings discourage online users?

well all i can say is my uscf is around 500-600 points lower than my blitz rating, and fide ratings are around 100 points lower than uscf on average.

other sites are more accurate to me, on lichess i have 1600 blitz rating

Weird, I am 1900+ in blitz and 2150+ rapid there. Extremely over inflated.

It used to be 1200 for everybody but in the last year where they allowed players to self assess as high as 1800.

Not comparable: Different player pools, and different calculation system.

Don't be too surprised, nothing this guy says is serious.

my highest in online was just over 1700 , otb id knock a 0 off to get an ecf of 170 , but otb is a different chess game and my ecf of 122 reflects that , uscf conversion i dont know im ecf so i tend to work by the knock a zero off conversion method

interestingly its much more accurate the higher grade it goes ie a 2400 is 240 in ecf this is the level of otb masters
