chess.com should make it possible to us to block blitz / bullet

Don't be silly, chess.com is obsessed with top speed chess, why would they want to do that?

Good  question.  Perhaps  because  they  don't  want to profite from the misery of player  who get addicted but with some help  would  like  to play  chess in slower time controls? This website could demonstrate that they care about  people playing  here.

Hmmm, I am afraid you don't know much about game addiction. Our rehab clinic in Switzerland has several people with serious game addiction. Game addiction  is classified as disorder by WHO. Game addiction is described as a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behaviour so severe that it takes "precedence over other life interests".

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-42541404

You don't have to inject stuff in your body to be addicted.

U can be addicted to games, but as if u can be addicted to a CERTAIN section of a game. That's what Im arguing

You are probably very young, I guess, you just don't think much before you post something here, am I write? You wrote above that "Chess is just a board game. sure a lot of people really want to play a specific game because they enjoy it, and might do it over work or school, or study, but that's not the same addiction that people have when addicted to drugs. It's not hard to stop yourself from playing games etc."

So, you didn't say that people can be addicted to a certain section of a game. You said that "It's not hard to stop yourself playing games etc". Please stay with the facts. And perhaps you should begin to think at last some seconds before posting something.

use ur common sense, thats what I was referring to, a certain section of a game. That's what the argument is about in the first place. I think ur the one that doesn't think before they write. now ur resorting to insults, calling me young. I'm an adult sir, but you're a manchild.

Okay adult girl,  tell me where you wrote that people  can get addicted  to a certain  section  of the game. You was arguing  that people  can't get addicted  to chess,  and after I  gave you  the link to the fame addiction  you suddenly  changed your  mind,  telling  that you was arguing all the time  about  people  getting  addicted  to parts of the game.  Do you  think  we all here are not able  to read or what?  If you decide  to agree with me,  then do it,  don't  invent things  to show  you don't  do mistakes.

Such an option won't work. It would disable the option to play here, but then when the feeling gets too strong they just to to *some other site* to get their kicks there.

Thus it would only drive people away from this site in the end.

This is an argument. I agree  with you that people  could go somewhere  else.  But don't  forget  that the player is blocking  himself  voluntarily, and this means that  he is ready to do something  against the addiction.

if we block bullet do we get an achievement award?

RedGirl, you are right, but I am talking about the player not being allowed to unblock, of course.

ur seriously suggesting that chess.com makes a mechanic where u can set a timer for how long a time control is blocked for u. How would the site even develop that it makes no sense. just don't queue up for bullet or blitz if u dont like it, why do u need such a detailed mechanic to stop u from playing it, I don't think any humans that impulsive.

I am not talking about me, I have the control. I am talking about people who are addicted - chess.com is full of them, playing hours and hours every day, with all the problems that addicted people have. I am working with addicted people in a rehab clinic since 20 years, I know what addiction can do to people. It is a serious issue, believe me.

Many things wrong with that.

1. I never said I was talking about u. I was talking in general.

2. Addiction in chess? to a specific time control on a website?

Seriously u have got to be joking me. next you'll say that people should put locks on their computers so they don't go on them for more than 5 hours a day, "it's addicting!!!"

Cages to block your phone in because it's addicting do exist.

Sorry red adult girl, but if I have to read again one single word of your previous statements lacking any logic I am afraid I will have a heart attack or something worst.

This kind of "argumentation" might have success among other red hair girls, but here you are just showing that you still have to get more mature and experienced to argue at a decent level. You just want to "be right", to disagree, to criticise, as I saw in other times in others posts, doesn't matter which topic. I am sorry about people who have to deal with you day after day.

Or perhaps I am just wrong and I misunderstood you and deep deep deep inside you are a kind person. Who knows?

Don't be mad with me, but From now on I will try to ignore you, as you are not able to contribute in an intelligent way to the topic discussed here. Hey, good for you, you can have the last word!

Have a nice day and I wish you success in not being addicted to "certain sections of the game", although nobody knows what you are talking about, probably even you not. :D

and so ends another happy debate. . .. that boorish cad who really insulted RedGirlZ should be taken outside and given a good thrashing with Ruben Fines encyclopedia of chess endings. wink.png

i knew a guy who purportedly read the fine book (in descriptive notation no less) 5 times cover to cover. got to be an nm though i don't know whether the book helped or hurt. i stopped buying chess books when i realized i almost never read them, total waste of money for me (and i suspect the vast majority of chessplayers).

Avatar of RoobieRoo

My goodness, that is impressive.  Its one of those books you think will be amazing and as soon as you open the cover realise that it was a mistake to purchase it.

well, it was invaluable at times as a sleeping aid. put me to sleep right off.

No offense, torrubirubi, but let's be honest, you are the one who starded a personal attack.

Nie WE are allow  to call other people imbecile.  Great. Are you  trying  to impress  the red hair  kid?  Watch up what you say.  Would you like  if I would  call you ein  Arschloch? But I will not do this , is not  my style (Arschloch).

Actually she was subject to some deeply abhorrent and essentially vile caustic diatribe.  No one should be subjected to that kind of filth and hatred.  Impress her? Not a chance! She cringes at almost every word I write.  Essentially I had the same experience as you.  She will obfuscate when she cannot assail the logic and essentially simply wants to win.  She has fighting spirit, she will do ok. As for you, you can call me anything you like, its not a reflection of me, but of you. wink.png

The reference to imbecile was not made about you but of this user here.

What you said was fairly mild and more akin to bickering rather than an outright attempt to hurt anyone.

Robbie,  sorry, I just  thought  this is one of these days where in the forum everybody  is freaking out.  The guy is really  an imbecile, you are right,  attacking the girl in such a way.  I just perceived redgirl  as a little  bit rude, telling  that my idea is horrible,  perhaps  she is right,  but I would  prefer  people telling  their opinions in a more diplomatic  way.  Again,  really  sorry!!
