I'm trying to understand how to use the explorer option on game analysis. Is it based on games people in my league played, the database of all players, etc. ?

By default, Explorer is looking at the Master database (a collection of master games). You can change it to your game or those of another member on site as well.

So it can either tell you what you should have done or it shows you what other people who made the same moves did. Is that correct? It just seemed similar to game review but I was confused with all of the other options that showed up and percentages

It shows what positions occurred in the database you're looking at
