Most serious players use Lichess unless they're sponsored. Lichess is better for reasons such as better/quicker analysis, free puzzles and the studying resources. The only upside to chess.com is it's chess learning videos, rating system, and the bots to play against. But you can't beat free and if you're 2000+ Lichess is clearly the better site.

I have a feeling this thread is going to be deleted soon.

april 20, 2024 and this thread is still not deleted

i think lichess teaches more about chess

but chess.com is more social

Chess.com, is a profit organization, where they use premium memberships to earn money, but lichess, a non-profit organization is all free and requests for donation for the company to keep going

Serious players have ChessBase and do not rely on the superficial analysis options available on these websites.

Lichess has a lot of the same stuff as on chess.com for free because it relies on donations, but I think both sites are great notwithstanding.

Chess.com has never locked these threads and in the last few years has become secure enough that they don’t delete the name of lichess either - they finally figured out how to really differentiate themselves, which is that lichess is by its design supports its existing members, whereas chess.com is trying to attract new people to chess. Chess.com is trying a lot of new things, some of them a bit meh (leagues, anyone?) while some of them are a hit and really drive engagement (Mittens? Who’d a thunk it?).

Chess.com sucks lichess is better than chess. Com because lichess is more simple and works better. Lichess forever!!!

This feels like going into church and say "which religion is better?"

Literally both good depends on your needs. The end point is to literally just play chess.

Lichess all the way.

If chess.com removes the limited access of puzzles and analysis, then chess.com obviously but for now lichess is better as it gives most of the options cc has , that too without money

What I use Lichess for:

- Anonymous Bullet, for trying out new variations

- Playing Blitz

What I use Chess.com for:

- Playing Blitz

- Socializing on forums

- Playing against bots

- Puzzle Rush Survival

- Analysis board

For whatever reason, the Analysis board on Lichess often doesn't work on my browser. The "loading" symbol just spins and spins.

Whereas the Analysis board here usually loads for me just fine.

I like chess.com more

There are sound reasons to say that one or the other is better, for me the best thing about Lichess is that it has a separate classical category. It makes no sense at all to have 10/0 and 60/0 in the same category, and it makes the "rapid" ratings on this site pretty meaningless really.

I prefer play in chesscom, lichess is full of cheaters.
That doesn't mean that in Chesscom there isn't, but they are aware that it is something important to take into consideration and ban them more easily and often.

I’m new to chess websites these days, but I do recall MANY years back in my younger life I was on gameknot, and first let me say I’M AN HONEST GUY. I hate cheating and it goes against the way I was raised. I’d never do it, any more than I’d murder. I just don’t do that crap.

So looooooooooong time back I was on Gameknot and I won a game and for the shock of my life, they sent me a notice and said I cheated and they kicked me off. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.

it was like Bye! Bend over and you get no Vaseline. No arguing allowed. No chance to defend myself. Just cold, hard YOU’RE gone! Strike three! (Actually strike one, but that’s beside the point.)

I was stunned! I stood there shocked like I got hit by a freight train! I knew in my heart between me and God that I didn’t cheat, but it made no difference. I was kicked out for THEIR arbitrary decision. No chance to argue my case. No chance to defend my honor.

It really sucked!
