Chess.com Website (Embedding Question)

I enjoy chess generally, and it's a shame that it gets blocked on school Chromebooks. So, with my current coding knowledge, I have attempted to unblock it. I spent around 2-4 hrs of my time, but to no prevail. So here's my problem, I thought I could physically embed Chess.com onto a Google Sites; however, when I tried this, Chess.com's site authorizations blocked my attempt to embed it giving me the error "Chess.com Failed to Connect," which means I don't have permission to embed the site. I also tried downloading, copying, and fiddling with embedding software, proxy servers, google cache, and HTML, yet nothing worked. I tried it with Lichess.org, too however same issues. You can embed almost any website online, so it's silly why I can't do it with chess. I also don't see why it's that much of an issue because I'm technically not plagiarizing any software; most websites' code is available to the public. Can the developers of the chess.com community help me find a way to unblock chess.com? If any representative of chess.com sees this, can they give some advice or maybe tell me why my ape brain can't figure this out?

School should be for education, not playing games. Sorry to burst your kid's world bubble, but somebody had to tell you...

bro I use this site for chess club (at school). so for you to be saying that it's just a "game" and not part of school's education, then just get out. btw for the embedding question, I've been doing the same onto my google site but it won't work because of the school's restrictions. idk ig securly is kinda weird

It's frustrating when you can't access something you enjoy, especially when you've invested time and effort trying to unblock it.

Why are websites blocked on school Chromebooks?

Schools block websites on their networks and devices for a few reasons, including:

Legal requirements: Schools have a legal responsibility to protect students and ensure they don't access harmful or inappropriate online content.

Minimizing distractions: Restricting access to certain sites can prevent students from getting distracted during study time.

Website filtering software: Schools often use web-filtering software like Palo Alto Network or Securly to categorize and block certain website categories, including "games".

Why can't you embed Chess.com on Google Sites?

Your attempts to embed Chess.com on your Google Site were likely unsuccessful because Chess.com has implemented security measures like X-Frame-Options or Content-Security-Policy headers to prevent their website from being embedded within an iframe on another page. This is a common practice to prevent "iframe busting" and ensure their content isn't displayed in ways they don't intend.

Can Chess.com developers help?

While you can try contacting Chess.com, they are unlikely to provide a workaround for embedding their site, especially if the blocking is due to their security policies. However, Chess.com does have a public data API that you can explore. This API allows you to access publicly available information like player data, game data, club information, and more, but it doesn't support interactive gameplay or commands.

Other Options:

Ask your school administrators: The most straightforward and ethical approach is to talk to your school's IT department or a teacher about unblocking Chess.com. If you can explain your reasons (., educational benefits of chess), they may consider unblocking it.

Proxy Servers or VPNs (Use with Caution): Some students have success using proxy servers or VPNs to bypass school restrictions. However, be aware that your school may have measures in place to prevent the use of these tools, and attempting to bypass restrictions may violate school policies. Also, be cautious when using free proxies, as they may not be secure and could compromise your data.

Alternative Chess Platforms: Explore other chess platforms that might not be blocked.

Mobile Hotspot: If your school network blocks Chess.com, you could try using your phone's mobile hotspot to access it.

Remember: It's important to respect your school's policies and use these methods responsibly. Bypassing restrictions may have consequences.
