When I tried playing chess as a kid, people wouldn't let me en passant cos they thought I was just a dumb cheating kid making up illegal moves.
And some such people thought that any attacking piece on a king meant the king couldn't capture it, even if it was unprotected.
'Dad, I want to join a chess club!' ... 'nO! We HaVe ChEsS aT hOmE!!!'.
