Chess Database and Engine Program

I've been using SCID, which I'm fairly happy with, but I want more powerful engines and a better looking interface. SCID feels somewhat limited to me. Any suggestions out there? I've found a wide variety of prices: about $200 for Cheesbase 12 versus around $50 for Chess King. Has anyone had experience with a particular database that they are very pleased with--or not happy with?

I'm curious, what about Scid (apart from not liking the look) makes you feel it's somewhat limited?

As far as engines go, Stockfish is plenty strong enough for most.

I use ChessBase 11, and previously used ChessBase 8 for seven or eight years. I have an assortment of engines--Rybka 4, Hiarcs 12, Stockfish 4, ...

I use my database daily and rarely experience dissatisfaction. Rather, I am quite pleased with it. I use it for access to games, for storing annotations, for postgame evaluation, and for creating diagrams to post on my blog. I also export game notation and annotations to a rtf files to facilitate blogging.
