Chess Databases

There are many chess databases that you can interact with through a web broswer (chess.com and chesstempo.com are examples). But I would like to be able to download a nice multi-million master game collection of my own for some more in-depth analysis.

Any idea how to get ahold of such a collection, either paid or free?

Thanks!

Doirse

I have chessbase 13 which I really enjoy (https://shop.chessbase.com/en/categories/chessbase) and I use the game collection that came with Fritz 13 with 1.5 million games.

As far as I know you usually have to pay for game collection databases, and there are subscription services you can buy to keep them updated.  Chessbase has two offers -- their "big database" with over 6 million games, and their "mega database" for 3x the price, but I'm not sure what else you get.

i have a 5 million-games database for Scid (using the 4.6.0 beta version, it is faster) but my conn is lame. i can upload a subset consisting of all games before 1930 plus all games where one player is 2500+ elo. This are 862 K games. You can then upgrade it with TWIC games and what else you find on the internet. Tell me if interested.

I thought TWIC stopped offer the free updates a year or so ago?

No, they just shut down access to the older issues Cry

You can get TWIC files from the beginning to #1026 in one jumbo download (either SCID or PGN format) from here:

Hmm, the TWIC download links on that page lead to a broken download page for me (No Captcha). Hope it works for you, Eric.

It worked for me. I am now basking in the glory of 1.5 Million master games.

Try this direct download link the SCID file. http://www.mediafire.com/download/hc5879zgj7itx9f/TWIC1-1026.zip

millbase is a good source, with scid. it has over 1.6M master games all rated over 2200+.

http://katar.weebly.com/blog/millbase-for-scid-update2

thanks to katar, the database is well maintained, cleaned refined, and duplicate, incomplete games deleted. I used to update on my on by dloading and incorporating games from twic about every month, but i kinda stopped, because katar regularly updates his database and puts the updated version periodically on the internet, so i just download from him. he has made me lazy :D

for larger database (about 6M) there is icofybase, but most of them has low quality games, with lots of errors. usable, but not as good as millbase. if you filter out 2200+ games form icofybase you get about 1.6M games, so there you go. i have the icofybase updated until mid last yr i believe, and i have not updated since.

these all are completely free of charge, of course. for paid version you could get product from chessbase. hope this helps.
